My daughter - blood daughter as opposed to step-daughter - flitted in & out this weekend, as is her wont. She rolled up 8:00pm Friday night with a six-pack of Stella Artois, introducing me to "my friend Stella" and wishing me a happy birthday. Nice thought. I love foreign beers.
I didn't see the kids a lot this weekend. They both had things to see, places to go, people to do. That was fine and we've both become comfortable with the idea that 'our' kids - hers and mine - have grown up. They are all adults now. Even Ashley, my youngest. A young man 1 month away from legal adulthood, who can drive, has worked in one form or another since age 14, and is currently studying structural engineering. Loving it too. It's one thing I'm grateful for. Two of my three children are on paths to successful, professional careers which they will enjoy and be comfortable within. My eldest, actually my second by two minutes, child Matthew, baled from University because he suddently realised, much like his father did, that his path wasn't all that defined. He needed to define it and has sought to do so since leaving school and dropping out of Uni. He currently works for Hutchison Telecommunications in a responsible capacity earning some $35k/annum. Damn good money for a 20 year old in anyone's language.
My wife's daughter - my step-daughter - is already a woman in every sense of the the word. She's is a mother, a wife and lover to Daniel, my son-in-law. Daniel is Danish by birth and British by citizenship. He's a geek. An I.T. oriented, talented and authoritative geek. He's also a gamer. For those of your who, like me, don't ken that lingo.....his hobby is playing computer games. A very, very niched and cliched occupation. Suffice to say we rarely mesh on any level. Nice guy.........but a geek.
So, here I am at 1900 hours on a Sunday evening, having 'eaten' my friend Stella six times (eat your hearts out, ladies) and left her exhausted & discarded, having moved on to a local 'lady' who is more robust, writing to you all about the life and times of an ageing Aussie male who'd love to share his photo with you all but isn't quite sure you're ready for the adamantine beauty of such a chiselled physique. Que?? Am I pissed? How rude!!!!
Yes....I believe I might be approaching that point, but gee whiz.......isn't it fun?
It's 1012 hours and I'm onto my second cup of tea. Rabble snored again, but at least she didn't start until 0800 so I had a little lie in. Had a delightful chat with BarbieZ last evening, which must have been some early morning hour on her side of the globe. A lovely lady and surprisingly free spirit if you're willing to be as open and honest as she clearly is. Recommended.
So, how did you go with the sexual foible quiz? Rude of me I realise, but I put my responses up for 'friends' to read and not the general public, but hey....it's my blog, honey! If you're at all interested, email me or leave a comment & I'll let you in. No great dramas and nothing there I'm embarrassed about, but I don't want to be shocking the unaware either.
We - Rabble & I - are off to a muscial extravaganza this afternoon/evening. The trend, at least in this country, is towards the muscians and rockers of my vintage re-inventing their own youth and going on tour. Back in May, we went to see Deep Purple and Status Quo together live. Great show and well worth the money, which was expensive. This evening, we're going along to see what is billed as the Countdown Spectacular. Read the link and you'll get the drift of just what it is. Uniquely Australian with performing artists and bands which no-one outside of this country will have heard of, but who were huge names in the domestic pop/rock music industry in the seventies and eighties. I'm hoping that with the advent of mobile phones with cameras, the tight-arsed pretences at keeping intellectual property rights of photos and video the sole domain of the promoters will have passed into history. I know at DP/SQ there were cameras galore. We took ours and snapped away to our heart's content and no-one said boo, so I'm taking the video camera this time. I hope to have something to share with you all by tomorrow arvo, once it's been edited, all going well. Oh, non-Aussies keep asking me what's 'arvo'? It's one of those contractions I wrote about here. It's short for afternoon.
Have a great weekend, everyone. Relax, enjoy, get your rocks off in your favourite manner. More from me later on. Hooroo!
