Apparently, and according to history, Douglas MacArthur used this building as Supreme Allied Headquarters - Pacific Theatre during World War II, from 1942 through 1944 when he shifted his base of operations to Northern Papua and then the Philippines.Originally known as the 'AMP Building' constructed in 1931, during the war, this building was Brisbane's largest and newest office building. A lot of detail about this ongoing piece of history is contained here. Makes interesting reading. Brisbane is still a big country town, and most likely always will be, due to it's decentralised layout. The city centre is remarkably small, but the metropolitan and suburban sprawl, huge! The city's population exceeds 1.8m people within the defined city boundaries. It's a modern city these days. More tall buildings than there ever were ten years ago and many still going up. We retain parkland though, and it's an easy city to get about in. I call it home.
