The Wyvern depicted here is Vermithrax, the so-called dragon from the Walt Disney film, 'Dragonslayer'. Even though that creature breathed fire, Wyverns do not. Wyverns do have the poisoned-barbed spade-like tail of Vermithrax, the two legs and winged, taloned forelegs. Wyverns are reputed to spit poison or exhale noxious, poisonous fumes.
Depicted as being vicious, powerfully evil and ruthless, I'm attracted to the Wyvern for it's ability to survive, be self-sufficient and uncaring of external influences. It's power, for me, derives from it's ability to survive in legend and still appear as a symbol of dominance on heraldry.
